School Admission Policy 2013/14

Sacred Heart is a Roman Catholic Primary School provided by the Diocese of Salford and maintained by the Lancashire Local Authority as a Voluntary Aided Primary School. The school’s governing body is the Admission Authority and this is responsible for taking decisions on applications for admission. For the school year commencing 2013/2014, the governing body’s planned admission is 30 pupils.

Admission to the school will be made by the governing body in accordance with the stated parental preferences it receives, subject to the following criteria which will be used to form a priority order if there are more applications for admission than the school has places available.

Applications for a place in Reception at September 2013 should be made on the Common Application Form (CAF) issued by Lancashire County Council and returned to the Local Authority by the date specified by Lancashire County Council.

Parents who wish to seek priority for baptised Catholic children or provide additional information to support their application should also complete the school’s Supplementary Information Form (SIF) and return it at the same time.

As required by law, all children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs naming the school will be admitted before the application of the over-subscription criteria:

  1. Baptised Roman Catholic children who are in public care
  2. Baptised Roman Catholic children with proven and exceptional medical and social needs, where admission to the school might best help satisfy those needs, provided that appropriate written evidence from a suitably qualified professional (e.g. doctor or social worker) is submitted with the application
  3. Baptised Roman Catholic children who will have a brother or sister attending the school at the time of admission and are resident in the original parish boundaries of Sacred Heart
  4. Baptised Roman Catholic children who are resident in the parish of Sacred Heart
  5. Other baptised Roman Catholic children who will have a brother or sister attending the school at the time of admission and are resident in another parish
